Tomorrow afternoon is our Pinewood Derby workshop, an opportunity for everyone to get their cars designed, cut & carved with tools and expertise provided by our Pack adults! Once done, the Scouts will finish decorating their cars at home.
This workshop will run from 2:00 to 4:00 PM but you don’t need to arrive exactly at 2:00 PM as we have limited supplies & space for the entire Pack; but if you are bringing tools & safety equipment please arrive as early as possible to maximize their use for the event.
We will have one band saw available but if anyone has another band saw (examples) and/or scroll saw (examples) please reply so we can plan space accordingly.
The following supplies will be provided at this workshop, and you’re not required to attend if you’re able to build the car on your own:

Pinewood derby kit ($10/each)

Car design templates (or bring your own) & pencils!

Woodworking tools & saws (handled by adults)

Drills & bits
-
Sandpaper / sanding blocks

Safety glasses & ear protection

We have yet to identify a Cubmaster and Committee Chair to lead the Pack after March 31 so we’ll be having an all-hands meeting to discuss the options for the spring and beyond.

At the end of March 2025, Jesse and I (as Cubmaster & Committee Chair) will be stepping out of this program as our Scouts age out and transition to a Troop in Scouts BSA.
Our Pack 685 needs your help to fill out some key adult volunteer positions for 2025 so we can continue delivering this great Scouting program to more than 20 families in a unit that's been around for over 60 years.

Returning this year will be our annual Scouting for Food service project — see official details here!
We’ll have donuts and drinks at each event so please RSVP so we can confirm headcount and logistics!
We encourage everyone to participate in this two-part service project, but it’s OK if you can only attend one:

Flyers drop-off (Feb 23) — we’ll drop-off flyers at houses in our neighborhoods around Highland Middle School

Food pick-up (Mar 1) — we’ll come back through to walk-and-knock at houses on the route and pick-up the food left on door-steps.
