The cost of being a Cub Scout varies somewhat from year to year, and it also greatly depends on how active a scout becomes in the program. We offer a wide range of activities throughout the year: many of these are considered optional. Cub Scouting costs include:
INITIAL COST:
Initial Registration | TBD | (varies based on month prorated) |
Uniform Shirt with patches | $45-65 | (depends on shirt type and style) |
Neckerchief, Slide, and Handbook | $28-34 | (depends on scout’s rank) |
RECURRING COST:
BSA National registration | $33 | (annually, by calendar year) |
Boys’ Life magazine subscription | $12 | (annually, by calendar year) |
Cascade Pacific Council insurance fee | $12 | (annually, by calendar year) |
Pack 685 Unit Dues | $40 | (annually, by calendar year) |
Neckerchief, Slide, and Handbook | $28-34 | (scouts need new set each year) |
Summer Camp | $130-320 | (cost depends on camp) |
Other activities vary greatly in cost. For example, an overnighter will typically cost $50-60 per participant, while other activities (hiking, frisbee golf, bicycling, etc, etc.) can be free or have a small cost (bowling, ice skating, etc, etc.).
All costs can be offset by “scout account” earnings from pack fundraisers. Need-based scholarships are available to those who qualify; see our Cubmaster, Pack Treasurer or Committee Chair for further details.
